Asthma (Austin: home, allergies, living in)

I know asthma can be triggered by environmental allergies and that is so individualized, but in general did anyone here have significant changes (good or bad) with their asthma living in Austin? I know cedar fever can be rough for some.

Austin is absolutely terrible for allergies and asthma year round.

I doubt anyone ever had their asthma improve by moving to Austin, we have allergens in the air year around, and even if you don't have an allergy to cedar or some of the tree pollens, they can dump so much particulate matter into the air that they can trigger asthma.

Mold can be an issue year around, trees in fall (fall elm, grasses. ragweed) then cedar from Nov-Feb, then the spring trees (oak, elm, grass again), summer is probably the best time but that is also when mold tends to be the highest.

For some, allergens make Austin unlivable. Allergy shots can help but are not a sure-fire cure.

I have exercise induced asthma, and no environmental allergies. I have yet to have cedar problems. I am the exception and not the rule.

My asthma is triggered by allergies and I have had to be more aware of weather changes since moving here 3 years ago - if I remember to take an allergy pill every day it's usually fine. Thankfully mine is not bad enough to require shots.

The dry air here in Phoenix in addition to the days with terrible, dusty air quality are making my 7 yr old miserable. Our visits to Texas (my home state) haven't been long enough to determine how he would be long term if we moved back near family. Not encouraged by what you all are saying, though. Poor kid.
