Which of the BBQ places around Central Texas has the biggest BBQ pit? I've been to a lot of them but haven't paid enough attention to the pits to know. My brother wants to bring my niece, who loves BBQ, down and show her one with a huge pit. Thanks!

salt lick has a really nice looking pit. I dont know if it is the biggest, but the one in the restaurant is impressive. (dont think it is the actual pit). Based on volume salt lick's has to be the largest.

As I recall, Smitty's in Lockhart has an open pit, in which you can feel the heat (literally) when placing an order and waiting.

Salt Lick is a good idea. My husband and all the other Texas Game Wardens around here love Smitty's but I've not been impressed with their BBQ when I've been there. I love Cooper's in Llano, but I was hoping for a closer one. He just wants her to see a big open pit where you can pick your own meat. Haha (Entertainment for a NE Texas child!)

Sounds like you want to see the largest publicly viewable BBQ pit.

I agree that Salt Lick produces the most BBQ around here, and therefore must have the largest cooking facility. The pit they have on display can't possibly handle all that volume, so there may be a bigger publicly viewable pit elsewhere, but I don't know where it would be.

I'd just take her to Salt Lick.

Steve

Might not be the biggest; but pretty much everything is in view as I recall.

I like the Kreuz/Smitty's atmosphere. Kreuz has awesome pits, and Smitty's has the historic pits.

I don't like Salt Lick BBQ, but their serving pit is pretty cool if you're just going for visual.

If you want to see it up close AND pick it, Cooper's in Llano is your best bet. But again, that's just a serving pit.

Almost forgot...Louie Mueller BBQ in Taylor is another historic place with a huge pit and great, old atmosphere.
