Hi,

I need your suggestions on helping me decide on schools for my K going child. I need a balanace between curriculum/ academics and leadership/ performance ( stage participations, clubs, sports). After school is important since I cannot get out of work until after 4pm. Gifted/ talented definetly but that is not the only criteria.
The options I currently have are Laurel mountain elementary and Meridian world school. Is there a clear winner here? I know its a personal choice but I’d like to hear from you.

Thank you Thank you!

meridian is a charter school so has a lottery to get in. There is not guaranteed acceptance and the waiting list is probably enormous. Are you sure you have a choice? I doubt many people have experience with both.. We still have friends with kids at Laurel mountain. If your kids are average academically they will essentially be considered to be slow because the students are so high performing. There might even be suggestions that they be held back.

Yes, Meridian is a Charter and We got through the lottery and can accept the offer if we want to. Also eligible to get into Laurel and is considered academically advanced( gifted/ talented). The question now is which one of the two.

Since you feed in to laurel mountain, it seems like meridian would be a big drive.

When you look at the high school level, meridian has an average SAT of 1240 and westwood has an average SAT of 1340.

So while meridian is ranked very highly by us news and world report, Im skeptical.

Personally the drive would kill meridian for me.

Given the two choices and with a drive to Meridian, I would take Laurel Mountain! Sounds like OP's kid can handle it (fingers crossed) and the cummulative effect of a long drive really builds up over the six years of elementary.

How does Meridian compare to Henry middle or Vista Ridge high? We have a 8th grader who got in but are new to area and not sure if it’s worth the drive? Please help us decide!!! TIA.

No school is perfect. For LME, at least for lower elementary school years, there are no competition. Some comparison between kids may begin to show when they go into upper elementary years. And it depends on kids to learn to how to handle it. My kid who went to LME for past five years enjoyed LME a lot. When she heard some drama stories from her friends from other elementary school , she is so thankful for what her LME classmates are. Kids here are raised very supporting , loving and caring.
As for the teacher, I personally like lower elementary school teacher much better. Overall, I appreciate what LME has brought my kids.

Hi,
Is there any assigned Neibourhood school admission opportunity to Meridian Wold School?
Is it always the only lottery option to admission to this IB school?
