I hope Austin doesn't blossom into the next Atlanta... Hopefully they can plan better for growth in Austin than we did here. I know a lot of previous posts said that Austin hasn't planned very well so far, but we can hope, right?

Not just grackles, but Central Texas (and South) gets tons of migratory birds (and butterflies!) this time of year.

Austin is situated in a major bird migratory path from Mexico to Canada.

The ones that sing so nicely are mockingbirds. They are the state bird, so I'm assuming they stay here in Texas. No one mentioned all the birds before we moved. I love it! I sit most of the day with my door open just listening to them.

Mocking birds are very aptly named....my dad trains herding dogs, and he used a whistle to give the dogs directions. The mockingbirds have taken to imitating the whistle. I can not tell the difference, but apparently the dogs can, since they don't run around in circles or figure eights .

I totally agree as I just purchased a home off of 620 not too far from the new Galleria. We close at the end of May and hoped to be moved by early July.

I've got one I would GLADLY pack up and ship down to you. We have this dang Mockingbird that spends the spring and summer in our yard every year. Blasted thing sings 24/7!!!!!!! It NEVER SHUTS UP!!!!!!!!!! I can hear it right now singing up a storm and LOUD! "prettybird, prettybird, prettybird, tweet, tweet, tweet. SCHRILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLl prettybird, prettybird, prettybird, prettybird, tchweeeeeet, tchweeet, SCHRILLLLLLLLLL! (say "prettybird" really fast over and over w/ a bit of a high pitch and it sounds like these blasted birds).

I don't care if they ARE the "State Bird" and I'm a Native Texan. I'd shot this dadgum bird to get it to SHUT UP!!
