good evening. i am considering relocating to the Austin Texas area. I am a Musician, Realtor and Photographer. I feel through reading threads and other information sites on Austin, that i would be able to still work with all three of my work areas, in the Austin area.

i would be looking to purchase a home in the $250,000-$325,000 range. 3brs, 2bth, hoping to get at least an acre of land. i have searched local real estate sites but i dont really know what areas are more desirable. hoping you all can give me some tips and or direction.

of course i would like an area that is NOT known for crime/drugs/gangs etc. something that is at most within 20minutes drive from and to the City of Austin, being that with my music and photography i would be traveling quite often to the inner city.

Well, if you weren't stuck on having so much land then I would suggest the 78704 area in South Austin. This is by far the coolest and "funkiest" area of the city and is very close to downtown.

to me it sounds like you are describing the Goldenwood neighborhood in Driftwood... or any of the neighborhoods near the big temple out on 1826

The areas off of 1826 are also what comes to mind when you mention 'an acre' and 'near the city'. In reality, you will probably have trouble finding that much land for that price that close in. It might be out there, I don't know, but you will probably have to give a little in one of the items (price/size/distance). Most of 1826 is at least 30 minutes from the time you leave a house until you get 'into' Austin, but otherwise, the rest is doable.

thank you raskolnikov and trainwreck20 for the info. im not really stuck on having all 3 (price/size/distance), im willing to give in a little on either of the three. its not going to make or break the deal. where is the big temple? i see driftwood on the map, i also see driftwood is near dripping springs in which i hear has many new constructions and subdivisions going up, i could be wrong but i think thats what i have read in some threads.

Barsana Dham Hindu temple - not sure on the exact address, but it is south on 1826 near Driftwood, but just north.

Driftwood is essentially due south of the 'Y' in Oakhill, whereas DS is pretty much due west. Coming up 1826, you can hop over on Slaughter or 45/Mopac and avoid the 'Y' when driving into town, and that is pretty convenient. The new toll rd (some years away) might make a big difference when coming in from DS.

Take a look at trulia and Moderator cut: site is a realtor associated site. They both let you view austin real estate using map. You can filter for your criteria and very quickly see how far out the various properties are.
