SA is a huge tourist destination. Austin, way, way down the list of places to visit as a tourist. It is higher than it used to be, with COTA, Kalahari, soccer, and a few other things, but still not in the top places in the state.

Laredo used to be a great place to visit and so was Nuevo Laredo many years ago, but not so much anymore .

I have lived in TX for quite some time but I have only been to San Antonio once for a concert. It is not because I am scared, it is because I really don't have any reason to visit there.

My favorite destination in SA... way down on the south side.
We always order 15 dozen cooked & frozen pork tamales (best in the state). A year’s supply.

Most people wouldn't, unless they have relatives or friends in those small towns. A friend of mine goes to Alice occasionally to see a friend. I been to Port Isabel/South Padre Island only twice the beaches are better then Port A, but the the drive is so much longer.

People come to Austin on the weekends all the time. Bachelor/ette parties, the water, outdoors, shows, etc. I don’t even try to online date on the weekends because there are so many non-locals here.

Why would anyone be scared to go to San Antonio? We've been there, but don't feel the need or desire to go there just for fun. It's sort of been there, done that. It's an OK city, but no place amazing. We don't have any relatives there or anything. My kids will usually have a competition there once a year or so that we'll go for. But we're going to see our kids perform, not because we love San Antonio. Should we be scared?

Why would people be 'scared' of SA? If they are, then they are a bunch of wussies. Seriously.

I can't speak in comparison to SATX but I personally know alot of people who do come to ATX over the weekend, even from out of state. Just met someone from Chicago weekend before last, they were here for a short weekend getaway.. ..and a couple from Wisconsin as well. Over the week, in IT atleast, it gets its fair share of business travel too.

But anyway on the original topic, I have no issues with SATX. I enjoy it there.

Racism. White Chads and Trixies (now Karens) are afraid of leaving their white bubble of Austin. Heavily Hispanic San Antonio is pretty foreign to White Anglo-Saxon Protestants; the Spanish language, Catholic culture, and spicy (Tex-)Mexican food evokes xenophobia.

Also the reason the tech bros decided to set up in Austin instead of San Antonio, despite comparable cheap electricity, cost-of-living, population, etc.
