My single daughter is thinking about moving to Austin. What areas would be a safe consideration. She would like to buy a opposed to rent. She has a budget of$130,000 and would like 2 bedrooms and 1+baths. Her main concern of course is being in a safe affordable area with jobs. Any ideas?

I'm not at all sure you can buy anything habitable in Austin for $130k. Max price of $130k in a Trulia search shows lots... no dwellings. And only 20 of those.

Go south to San Antonio and you open up some possibilities.

There are no "safe, affordable areas with jobs" anymore. Unless her income is $100,000++.

Austin is where everyone from CA flees. Expect CA prices.

It’s not happening even in the far flung suburbs you would need atleast $300k (pre-bidding wars) to secure a 2BR 1BA. Now that will probably be a $385k - $400k home.
