They’re mobile homes. Del Valle is already full of them. This is not what Del Valle needs to get more moderate to high income people to live near Tesla (where they ideally would work) or to get an H-E-B tl actually be built out there.

From the article

Quote:

The developer sells manufactured homes, which are built in Texas factories and then delivered to Austin
Manufactured is the formal way to describe mobile homes, double wides, single wides, or trailers.

IIRC, a national manufacturer built prefab houses similar to mobile homes, but assembled the parts on slabs.
No wheels were on them.

I have rarely seen a “mobile home” with wheels. They are transported in pieces, as you’ve said. There’s no foundation, though, thus making them mobile. From my perspective, as a lumber store merchandising director’s daughter, they’re still “manufactured.” There’s a difference between mobile, modular and then slab home. Manufactured homes get moved by piece by piece and dropped wherever. Modular are pieces that are placed on foundation. These are clearly manufactured, mobile homes.

There is a well maintained manufactured home community on Desseau, however I’ve heard from former residents that they’ve moved from owning a home there to moving to an apartment because of safety concerns. And then there are communities like the one where a teenage boy was murdered earlier this year and residents are fearful to speak to police due to retaliation. (https://www.kvue.com/article/news/cr...8-795025757656).

With reputations like that in the city, it’s doubtful any bougey hip family from California who can borderline afford to live near Tesla in a home with a slab foundation will opt for this. They’ll choose to live in Kyle or Buda.

I was surprised when you said that about Del Valle because I assumed it was a more middle to upper middle class and wouldn't have those types of structures.

There’s at least four communities on the map when you put in “mobile home community Del Valle.” There’s also lots of open land where people can plop them cheaply. Del Valle is not Leander and if the Del Valle community is trying to shed it’s rural, cheap, country reputation this is not the way. If they want to continue to bring in low to lower middle class families then this is great. And it’s okay, because those communities need places to live too. But, this is not keeping the new Tesla execs close to home. They’re going to go even further out and commute in. Also, I did a quick search of manufactured homes for sale in Del Valle and there are about six ranging in price from 199k-750k, nothing below.
