I think it depends on the situation. If it is pretty straightforward or a type / case that typically responds well to treatment, then I think Texas Oncology would be fine. If it is more challenging or something that typically doesn't respond well to treatment or have a good outcome, then I think MD Anderson is the way to go.

I know people who have gone to both. The folks that went to MD Anderson had rarer forms of cancer or cancer that typically did not have a good outcome. There just weren't many treatment options available to them. They were able to get experimental treatments at MD Anderson that they wouldn't have been able to receive elsewhere.

And I'm sorry that you or someone you know is going through this. Cancer sucks.

my husband had stage 3 colon cancer and we referred to texas oncology. Wanting a second opinion (after surgery but before Chemo) we made an appointment at MD anderson. The Dr at MD Anderson told us to save the commute and stay with Texas Oncology as they will follow the same treatment of process since it has become so standardized.

Start at MD Anderson.

Ongoing chemo or radiation? Texas Oncology is good.

Balancing the expertise you'll find at MD Anderson with the reality of home being Austin and how to juggle all of that.

Godspeed.

Agree with the others, your local TO for treatment, MDA for surgery.

If it is prostate cancer, I would definitely look at Austin Center for Radiation Oncology. Dr. Garza and his staff pretty much only treat prostates and they do it at a very high level.
Outside of that, I think that for most "straight forward" cancers I would save the hassle of traveling and stay local. I would seek a second opinion at MSK or MDA just to make sure that the treatment plan is how they would do it.
