Hi all.
I'm relocating to Austin next summer and have pretty much found Round Rock very interesting and similar to the suburb I currently live in in So. Cal. But I have to admit, the thought of the wide open spaces of the nearby hill country sounds nice. No cookie cutter homes, larger lots, etc. And I'm sure that in 10 years time, the growth will make Round Rock look like part of the city.
Can anyone direct me to good zip codes/area names approx. 15 mins. or so from Round Rock? I believe in the direction of Georgetown? If there are any pics I'd love that!

Right? I can't tell where Round Rock ends and Austin begins, at least along I 35. I guess maybe Jonestown or Cedar Park, but even with those (except some parts of Jonestown) you're gonna get cookie cutter. Some of the cookie cutter homes may be larger than others but they are still cookie cutter. Actually, I know people that have moved from Austin into RR, Taylor, Hutto, and Georgetown who say they have bigger lots out this way than they did in Austin. Just do a search for pictures. Some people over on the main Texas forum have pictures of the area as well.

Not really. It's on the skirts of the Hill Country, right along IH35.

That is also the name of an elementary school in RRISD that has a TEA rating of "Recognized."

Sorry, Cabolissa, you'll have to google Escalera Ranch to see the area I was talking about.

Texashorselady, do you know of any neighborhoods planned near the future Gary Ranch Park? It looks like its going to be really nice.

It IS going to be beautiful (it's already beautiful), and the house itself is gorgeous. (I cooked out there once back in my personal cheffing days.) I love that they're going to have an equestrian area; when I was there, Mr. Gary had just come in from helping a neighbor move cattle, on horseback.

As for neighborhoods, I'll have to see what's new in the planning in that area. Given that Parmer/Ronald Reagan is just a mile or so west of the entrance, it's pretty much a given that that part of the country will be paved over - that's one reason the Gary's decided to donate it as a park, to preserve it after they're gone. It'll be larger than Zilker Park.

I agree, very beautiful, but very pricey... Unfortunately, we're only able to afford about $200K... Sigh... Cookie cutter world, here we come!
