It looks like this might be a real ice storm finally. It might be time to start planning on not being at work tomorrow or at least going in late.

I'm not counting on it, but my usual "snow" sensor doesn't work for ice. Regardless, the high tomorrow is supposed to be 54. If it does anything, it will not be around long.

The high may not come til around noon'ish from what I read so "Austin may start late" tomorrow
You know what that means if you've been through ice storms before.

I don't think there will be enough precip to make for huge ice coverage. Any ice we do have will be so thin that it will melt as soon as something touches it.

We were driving through the Panhandle in December a couple of years ago... it was night and there was an ice storm. The roads were so slick. We're not used to that. We we're hauling a trailer going home to California. You could barely drive without the truck sliding. We counted something like 20+ diesels on their sides. One truck tipped with a horse trailer & horses. Luckily a farmer let the horse stay in his pasture. A ton of cars ended up at the Shamrock Motel in Shamrock, Tx. They could've gouged us for the rooms that night, because they were the only game in town. But they were fair and handled the big crowd with true customer service. We got our room and entertained ourselves by watching the cars slide around the parking lot. I'm sorry I droned on... Question. Does it ever get that bad in the San Antonio/Austin area?

momojojo - we usually get a good ice storm once every 2-3 years. Everything shuts down.

Weather.com is predicting freezing temps until 9am and it won't get above 40 degrees until around noon. So if we get some moisture it could lead to a late start to the day. My driveway has some slope to it so you can bet I will be checking before backing out of the garage.

I've never been in Austin for one before, but I have lived in the south all my life, a south with not much in the way of snow!

There are 2 words to describe people during a "icing event" in the south, massively hysterical! Gotta go get milk and bread, we are gonna be stranded for days!!!

As long as the kids go to school, I have too much crap to do at home tomorrow!!

So if there is ice overnight then check the radio/tv for school closings or late openings.

Usually the ISD's open later (10-11am) so as not to use a snow day.
Businesses also will open later.

If you have never driven on ice then just stay home..there's usually hundreds of local accidents.

What we usually get here is called "black ice"
