"Cool Suburb" is an oxymoron in my opinion.

Isn't the whole point of being the suburbs to not be cool- if cool means edgy, different, etc.?

Apache Shores, on the N side of Lake Austin, is a somewhat similar vibe.
Yes! That's it!! Thank you.

But shhh, let's not tell too many people.

I knew this one would stump people, but had to give it a shot. LOL.

Here in New York, I have come across a few 'cool' suburbs (vibrant art/music/threatre scene amidst the nature, lots of enterpreneurship, outdoor cafes to lounge in and access to the necessities of everyday life). So, not a complete oxymoron ... though almost one. But, the cold - the darn cold LOL. I figure those exceptions must exist there too. I bet they do ... someone's holding out LOL.

Umm . . . compared to New York, you do know that basically Austin is just one big suburb?

The central neighborhoods of Austin ARE the cool suburbs if your perspective on city/suburb is the east coast! We really have no urban core in the NE sense.

centralaustinite is exactly right. The coolest suburbs would be the houses that are right in the middle of town. Clarksville, Hyde Park, Travis Heights, and Barton Hills are all cool. East of I-35, the houses of Valwood and French Place and French Legation are cool. Allendale is semi cool. Rosewood (or is it Rosedale?) area is cool. Out west, Rollingwood's semi cool. Everything else is pretty much sprawl.

Yeah, it's like asking "what's the "coolest" brand of khakis I can find at Mervin's to wear to a weekend business seminar?"

or

"what's the "coolest" minivan?"

Steve
