Hello, I am visiting Round Rock for the 1st time, actually Texas for the 1st time. I am wondering where I should stay. I will not have a way to get around myself, so is there any nice hotels that have maybe malls, stores, or resturantes around that I can walk to that are really nice? I do get a discount at any of the Marriotts in the area but I am willing to stay wherever. One person told be about Marriott on Lafrontera or something like that. Any advise would help.

Thanks

There is really no good place for what you are looking for in Round Rock. La Frontera would be the closest.

Nothing against Round Rock, but that's kind of a bummer if you are staying there for your first trip to Texas. It's a good place to live, but nothing really there for a visitor, especially without a car. It's like going to Las Vegas and staying in Henderson.

I'd choose a hotel with a good gym and lots of TV channels... but you might be lucky and find a place with a restaurant across the parking lot. As suggested above, La Frontera might have something like that. Note that there are no buses and cabs will be prohibitively expensive. Renting a car might save you lots of money if that's an option.

Really the only thing that might fit what you are looking for is the Marriott at La Frontera. La Frontera is a big strip mall with several restaurants. I don't think there are any hotels up by the new outlet malls and IKEA yet in North Round Rock. That would be the ideal place to stay.

You can definitely walk to chain restaurants and major retailers from the La Frontera Marriott. As others have stated, it's pretty much just a big retail strip mall. There isn't anything uniquely Austin about it. If you have to stay in Round Rock and you won't have a vehicle then it's probably your best bet and it's very safe.
