You guys ROCK!! Thanks for all the directions and suggestions for lunch! Actually, the more I think about it, Mexican food sounds really good! I am staying at the Marriott Courtyard downtown. I am right near Stubbs and Iron Works, so that is a good idea also.

Thanks again! I will print out all these directions out. That Rudy's along the way...is that the one that sits along the river? Or is that County Line?

Actually, there are 2 County Lines. They are referred to as "on the lake" and "on the hill". The one on the lake is off 2222 and a little ways north of downtown. The other one - "on the hill" is on the way out to Hwy 71 and to Hamilton Pool. Rudy's is a much more casual place - fun but completely different than County Line. Check out both of their websites.

I need to tell you though - once you get to Hamilton Pool, which is a bit of a drive, you have to hike quite a ways down to see the grotto and the pool. While it is a natural beauty, it will consume quite a bit of your time to drive there and then hike to the pool. If you are short on time, I would recommend saving it for another trip.

Do you have plans to see Lake Travis? It's a shorter drive and well worth a visit.

I recommend Verde's (on Hamilton Pool Rd) for a slightly upscale Mexican food menu. I've eaten there three times and enjoyed it each time.

Yes it is a bit of a hike from the parking lot to Hamilton pool itself - but unless you are clumsy and unfit - it is not difficult at all. The pool itself is a one of a kind place and well worth the visit. Normally an eclectic group of people there too.

BBQ is one of those foods that people have strong opinions about. I think the meats at Rudy's are far better than the County Line. Rudy's "moist" (fatty) brisket is consistently the tastiest to me. Great baby back ribs and pork loin too. The BBQ sauce is much spicier than usual. The County Line is an Austin tradition but I would only go there if visitors insist. Their beef ribs are good (as are the same at Iron Works).
