Yeah, those flying insects can be extremely productive in building nests. I also noticed another wasp nest high up under the soffit. I usually just leave those alone until the winter then knock them down. However, if they are in the walls I will get rid of them.

I spray Cykick myself outside every month. It's probably overkill but I think it keeps the critters out pretty good.

There is a gap between the wood structure (large gable in front of my home) and they are flying in and out. I didn't get a close look of course but I am fairly certain they are hornets and look just like the one in the attached image. I also attached an image of the entry/exit area.

I can hear them flying around from what it sounds like inside the wall but I drilled another hole and the sound didn't amplify. It's odd though from this hole I can feel cool air, perhaps from the A/C. I hope that doesn't mean there is a leak. However, this home was built to be energy efficient so perhaps it feels cool because of that. Perhaps the hornets are enjoying this cool, dark, place.

What's odd though is that the entry area outside is from the top of the first floor area and the buzzing I hear behind the walls in the bathroom is on the second floor. I will have the pest control find out where the nest is and entry points. I need to seal it up some how.

Gosh, those guys are busy busy! Nervous. Ugh.

Suffice to say I am calling ABC pest control at 7:30 am tomorrow morning!

I'll post an update for the curious.

Chris
It seems unlikely that the hornets entering the lower eaves where you indicated would travel so far or even be able to find a clear path that would give them access to the upper roof area. You have an insulated wood stud wall in between.

Let us know what the exterminator finds when he visits. I'm curious.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

I was able to get ABC pest control to come on Monday at 11:45 am.

Hornets were in the lower eave (and flying in and out very aggressively that morning) and thankfully not in the access space. What he found in the soffit were mud daubers. Apparently their buzzing made quite an echo into the bathroom. He didn't see exactly how they were getting in but sprayed there with a liquid used for termites which apparently works on hornets, wasps, etc. We inspected the attic areas and thankfully no bugs. I also had a large yellow jacket nest in a faux vent near the top (above the front door). All of these flying insect species apparently love my home.

I will look and listen on Saturday to see if they gone. 30 day warranty.

Chris,
Have you ever considered the possibility that is not anything physical at all? I have just encountered what seems to be, the same incident. The buzzing sound appeared to be coming from the ceiling where the wall meets the ceiling. it sounded like there was a phone vibrating on the counter, but with more careful inspection, the sound was coming from inside a nearby wall. I stood on thew other side of the wall and i could hear nothing. The buzzing was not consistent but it would quiet and get louder randomly. My roommate and i began to carefully prod at the wall and i started hitting it with a brromstick to see if a reaction would occurr. Like i assumed, when i did it the buzzing stopped. I thought exactly what you did, it's a bee. However...i believe in positive and negative forces and the chills that ran down my legs from the buzzing led me to believe it was something negative and strongly negative at that. I knew my roommate had sage and i encouraged her to light and begin blessing us, then the house. The buzzing was silent at this time but when she returned with the sage and matches the buzzing became instantly agressive and it seemed even upset. we proceeded to bless the house and the buzzing is now less, however, still existent. If anyone knows anything about this trype of occurance, your advice is greatly appreciated. thank you.
