Everyone talks about In-n-out, but has anyone here tried Old Times? Very small little place in Norman's Crossing. Hand made burgers, not frozen patties. Homemade fries as well. The best burger I've had in forever.

We moved here from your neck of the woods about 5 years ago. We've never had any problems with any CA connection ... people are very friendly and very welcoming so "Come on down!". We had children in elementary, middle and high school when we moved and they all came back with extremely positive stories about how they were immediately welcomed. It's a great place and a great time to be coming to town.

I've not, but now I will. Thanks for the recommendation. Have you tried the burgers in Schwertner? (Hint: do NOT order the double - if my college-aged son and husband couldn't finish theirs, they'll likely be too much for anyone else to finish!)

Sounds good; I'll put it on my list to try.

My SIL is from California. She moved to Katy abt. 3 yrs. ago. On one of her visits to us, she and her kids stopped there because she just thought it looked "interesting". She told us that it was one of the best she's had too. They have other things on the menu too, but it's really basic type fare. I'll have to try something different and see if it's any good. The burgers are the draw here.

From my experience moving here 2 yrs ago, the people are friendlier and more welcoming than what is posted on these boards.

Will the people of Austin be more welcoming to us then some of the people here on this board? I always hear how friendly Texans are, and I have found that when we have visited Austin before. We are moving to Austin for a variety of reasons, and one of them is job related, but not the only reason. We are CA natives, and while we do love CA we have always wanted to live somewhere else, a new adventure if you will for the second half of our lives. We love Austin, and when this opportunity finally came for us to move we both knew Austin was our first choice. No, we won't talk about how great CA is all the time when we get there because truthfully as beautiful as CA is, it's not as wonderful as it use to be, just like Austin isn't or most other cities for that matter. Growth and urban sprawl is a problem in a lot of cities these days. I guess I'm just thinking back to the days when people flocked to CA and I just don't remember people here being so negative about it. In fact in my area it's unusual to find a native Californian (Silicon Valley), and no one around here ever complains that people are from different states.

I guess my point is are we truly welcome in Texas, or am I'm going to find that I can never mention where I'm from if someone ask me.
