What grade is your daughter in?

I've just emailed my daughter, now 26, to ask her if those were in her history books when she was in school.

Okay, just heard back from her. In high school, they definitely covered the Holocaust, and they did study the Great Depression, just not as much.

As a former elementary teacher, it was a choice sometimes as a team or individually to use textbooks. My principal told us to make sure that we followed the TEKS amd that students are learning. Some people believe that textbooks are so concrete and some may believe that lessons should be hands-on.
