We are considering a move from Minneapolis where the medical care is very good... provided your snowmobile or dogsled can get you to the hospital.

I have noticed in a few threads where people mention "Austin's limited medical care"... is the health care in Austin poor - average - great? Is there a children's hospital? Thanks.

There are a couple of hospitals that specialize in children here. Dell's childrens hospital is the biggest one here.

Yes, that's what I was going to say. They just moved to a newer facility not too long ago.

I wouldn't say Austin's health care is limited at all... it may seem that way compared to some of the country's best research centers and hospitals found in Houston, Dallas and SA.

Limited Health Care? By what standards? As another poster stated, maybe compared to The Medical Center in Houston, we are limited, but that's like saying Houston is not a big city compared to New York. (Houston is the 4th largest in the Nation!).

Anyway, off the top of my head there is the previously mentioned Dell Children's and I know Breckenridge has a good pediatric emergency care center. As for other (regular) hospitals,
-Breckenridge
-St. David's Downtown
-Seton Central
-Seton Southwest
-Seton Williamson County (new)
-Seton Hays County (new)
-St. David's Round Rock
-Scott and White facilities all around town including a new hospital in Round Rock
-Seton Northwest
-St. David's Northwest

I'm sure there are others in the South part of town, but I"m more familiar with Central and North.

There is good care here. With that being said are you looking for something or asking how the ERs are in case the kids break a bone? For that there is good coverage, however one of my sons has Aspergers and going to a specialist can be a wait to get in and neurologist for peds is somewhat limited. Sometimes you may need to travel to one of the other cities to find a specialist.
