I'm sorry, but it's attitudes like this that is making Austin lose its identity. Too many people living in the Austin area that just don't care.

But clearly the university has everything under control. 15000 people clearly do not understand that they are being yanked around by corporate attorneys that graduated from Harvard. They know what to say and how to say it. Oh well.
Sounds like you're against corporations. Hope you also don't buy anything, as that may constitute giving into to that capitalism thing . Oh, that's right, you're the enlightened one who knows how not to get screwed by the system while the rest of society are sheeple. Like you're the only one who thinks that way!

I'm not a big fan of enron or for-profit prison corporations.

I've found it very difficult to learn about the many tremendous opportunities at UT for the general public because they don't communicate outside the confines of departments or the university itself.

One way that I learn about free lectures, art shows, presentations and other events is to search, department-by-department, for information about events that are open to the public, or I just get on the internal department e-mail list. For example, I receive weekly announcements by e-mail of unique lectures being given in Earth Sciences (geology, geography, climatology, etc.) --- they're not listed as being open to the public but I checked with the head of the ESI (Earth Sciences Institute) and he said that they are all open to anyone who wants to attend.

Seek and ye shall find. Knock and the door will be opened unto you.

If the University is going to save money by closing this club, it is obviously losing money by being open. With tuition rates increasing almost yearly, how can UT possibly justify subsidizing a money-losing venture, which posters in this thread have admitted is rarely even used by the tuition-paying student body?

Also...15+ thousand on Facebook? I guarantee if they showed up on a weekly or even bi-weekly basis, the place would turn a profit, and it would be around for years to come.
