Does anyone know where I can purchase birdseed that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

I went to the link and did a search for bird seed, then just seed and nothing showed up.

Unless I'm missing something I cannot seem to find bulk birdseed on their website.

I'm looking for wildbirdseed, (no indoor birds).

Do they have bulk wildbird seed?

Have you tried that farm supply company that is (or was) on 183 just north of the intersection with 71? Near the airport. I think it's called Callahans. I love that place but it might be one of the overpriced stores you're referring to. It's been a long time since I last visited it, but back in the day you could get anything there.

Another option is if you're ever in an outlying town where there's a lot of ag in the area (such as Lockhart, Taylor, or Elgin) then you can probably find a feedstore or general ag supply store. They're fun places to check out and they usually have bulk birdseed.

Give Tomlinson's a call or stop in. They have wild birdseed in bulk (so you can buy as much or as little as you want). I'm sure that they could order a large amount for you if you asked. I've found them to be very helpful.

Have you checked Gaddy's? I can't say I ever looked for birdseed there, but they seemed reasonably priced on some other equipment I bought.

I have also seen large bags of wild bird seed at Costco. And don't forget that the squirrels will think that it is for them :-)

We get all our animal feed at Callahan's. They are the most inexpensive place we have found for feed.

You might want to call Buck Moore Feed, near the intersection of North Loop and North Lamar in Austin.
Buck Moore Feed Supply - Austin, TX, 78751 - Citysearch

I know people who buy dog food there because of the price, so they may have reasonable prices on bird food if they carry it. In the reviews, I'm reading that they carry chicken feed, so maybe. It's a neat place, looks like something frozen in time. imo, it's one of the local treasures in Austin. After you buy your bird seed, stop by Upper Crust Bakery at Burnet Rd and 45th. Great place.
