Hope everyone is ok in the Queensland.
My mother lives in Gatton, in the Lockyer Valley, and has voluntarily left today - so this hits close to home.
Terrible situation, Mother Nature is a powerful force.
Looks like Brizzy and the surrounding areas are heading for the biggest event since 1974.
What happened in Toowoomba was like an inland tsunami.

It has been upgraded, it will be worse than 74.
The images are absolutely haunting.
So sad.
9 dead , 59 missing.
I cant keep my eyes off the news.

Yeah I'm sick about hearing about the floods already. It's pretty massive.

I had no idea how bad they were.

It sounds so selfish, but they don't really have any effect on me unless they are city based. I didn't know anyone in the places where it is, but now Brisbane is going to be flooded? I have friends there and friends with family there.

Most of all, I have clients there. Clients there that definitely will not be taking their bookings with me in 2 weeks time.

Numbers have been revised to 10 dead and 78 missing (very grave fears for at least 18), one of the dead is a 4 year old boy swept away in a rescue attempt (that makes 5 children dead). This is really upsetting me, my best friend is stuck in Ipswitch with a small child and her husband is in the hospital. I heard from her earlier today but she had to leave so she could sort out what to do, all I can do is hope they are safe as residents have been told to stay off the phones.

Just heard as I was writing this that they will be turning the power off in Brisbane from tomorrow morning for safety, unclear as to when they will be restoring power, could be a couple of hours or a couple of days.

I bought a prepaid visa card the other day to do some online shopping. I am going to donate all of the money on it to relief efforts instead.

My sister-in-law and her daughter are trapped in Toowoomba. They are safe and are on high ground. They had gone up there for a job interview and holiday for the daughter!

Also have a few friends in Brissie who I need to check up on. Crazy stuff!

Where i live in brisbane, you would hardly even know anything is happening, if it was not for the TV etc. Most of the rain has fallen west of hear over the dam catchment, the creek running right along our boundry collects water that falls over the south eastern suburbs of the city at the moment its only just slightly more than a trickle.

Just talked to my brother however, who lives in a low lying area about 200m from the river, he's preparing for the worst, and has found alternative accomidation. The 74 floods did swamp his house apparently, and elderly neighbour told him that.

Parents place on the Darling downs, got flooded today, about 20cm ran through the ground floor area.

It's ok fellas, I'm alright.

But here in Brisbane, the worst will be tomorrow and Thursday when that water from Toowoomba arrives. I have a friend who lives in the CBD which is expected to reach waist height at the ground level of his apartment building.

I saw on the news some lady who lived in a rural area being interviewed said she didn't mind that her whole property was under water; it was the snakes started trying to enter her house to seek dry refuge that concerned her

You live in Brisbane?

This QLD flooding is starting to sound eerily familiar to Hurricane Katrina.
(the storm where levees collapsed, flooding New Orleans for weeks)

I thought I heard somewhere that QLD supplies nearly half of Australia's fruit and vegetables, normally.
