I think a lot of Australians appreciate our lifestyle. That doesn't equate to too much patriotism.
In the past it cost so much to get overseas that I think those who were truly into experiencing another culture went; therefore they were more "behaved". Ultimately there are idiots everywhere. For every ranting, southern cross tatted, boozed up Aussie, theres a non-ranting one interested in the country they're visiting.
Aussies can match Americans for blind patriotism blow for blow. Ever seen anything like Cronulla in the US?
Well I find it borish. Like who cares and why travel if you they mostly only want to mix with Aussies and Kiwis?
I agree. It's why I've been put off Bali. If I want to see drunk Aussies, I'll just go out here.

I dont think so on a whole....but I think that it's increasing, particularly among young bogans.... I'm pretty sure there have been race riots in the US......

Don't give up totally on Bali. I had that impression (crawling with drunk bogans) for years, then we went in July last year, but to Ubud. Lovely place, fantastic people. Well worth a visit, just stay away from that Kuta, Legian, Seminyak area. We were in Seminyak for a couple days on our Bali trip - huge letdown after Ubud. Seminyak felt like Tijuana. Ubud was serene, like what I wanted Bali to be.

Yes Bali is a surprisingly big island and it's easy to get away from the antipodean hordes. Those sort of places are a dime a dozen anyway. Same with Phuket, while Patong is awash with foreign tourists (although Aussies consist of only a percentage) there are plenty of beaches which are pretty secluded.

Ubud has always been on a different level. Did find Seminyak a bit more Europen focused and not too bad.
But Kuta and Legion definately true blue Ocker.

Depends how you define Cronulla. I don't think it had anything to do with patriotism. It was a bunch of bogans defending their beach. To call it a riot is a discredit to rioters the world over. Was there an element of racism? Absolutley. But beachside suburbs have been fighting with Westies since they built train lines from the Western Suburbs to the coast. far worse has come out of America. Remember the LA riots or the Cinncinati riots? Realistically Cronulla was no worse than what you see after a sports team loses in America.

Sounds about right. Us Yanks have yall beat. We'll rock the house, drink all night, Beat up the cops, put a cap in your neighbors butt, then burn down your house (and our own). But only when our team wins!
Hold on, how come young kiwis get any blame ?
We coach them well, if you are going to cause general mayhem wear a T shirt with an ocker flag on it
