Admittedly, it's a puff travel piece but they make it sound very attractive:

Perth is a great city, especially when on an expense account, as I imagine she was. It has one major barrier: cost. Anyone looking at hotels in Perth will immediately notice that they're astronomical for what's on offer. When I travelled to Perth (booking some 3 months in advance), a Mercure was going for nearly $300 a night. $200+ a night for 3 stars seemed to be the norm (June). Given that I got the InterContinental Adelaide for $160/night and the Syndey Central Mercure for $150 ($225 would have gotten me a 4 star harbour view), Perth's prices are a tad outrageous. Given the time and airfare involved, I imagine that it would also be off the radar for most, anyway.

That said, much like the writer, I really loved the city and hope to be back again before I'm 30. 5.75 years remaining!

More hip than Williamsburg? Haha, thanks for the compliment I guess, even if I find it rather amusing...

Accommodation in Perth is no more than other Australian cities. You're comparing apples and oranges. $200 a night for a 3 star is not the norm in Perth at all.
