I'd be a little concerned if Australia's largest and most bustling city was like tiny San Diego. This isn't an attack on San Diego, it's a nice city, but if anything Sydney needs to be on par with major global cities that are in it's league such as NYC, Tokyo, Hong Kong etc. Our showcase city shouldn't be a sleepy little place like San Diego.
Sydney is ranked alpha+, but I think it isn't the same league as Hong Kong, Tokyo, Paris. It's more like Toronto, Singapore, Chicago, San Francisco, Madrid, Milan.
Never been to Sydney but im not a fan of Australia maybe one day I will go. Ive been to SD and I loved it a great beautiful city will go again maybe this yr hopefully.
If you loved San Diego, then you'll also love Australian cities.
I was quite surprised at how similar Australian cities reminded me of Californian cities. The weather, the beach cultures, the laid-back feels, etc.
Don't get me wrong, SD is beautiful. But it doesn't hold a candle to Sydney.
In terms of? Being closer to other major cities - Sydney doesn't 'hold a candle' to SD. Traffic - I'm guessing Sydney's roads would be like carparks in comparison.

History, culture, parks, architecture, fashion...
By the way, in terms of weather, Sydney doesn't a hold a candle to San Diego. I would prefer their nice, mild weather over ours.
I'm sure SD can beat Sydney in other departments. But Sydney still wins when it comes to its historicity and heritage.

True.
The facts that Sydney is an Alpha + world city and a major world destination are already enough to place it head and shoulders above San Diego, IMO.
Plus, I'd have a hard time believing that people in Sydney are any ruder/meaner than the people in San Diego, whom I found to be some of the rudest/meanest I've encountered in the world honestly.
I'd also have a hard time believing that Sydney is less cultural (for starters, Sydney Opera House?!) than San Diego, which is a city that is really a giant small town in its mentality. I mean, you could have a list of 100 glowing compliments of San Diego, but just compare one thing to "big, bad" Los Angeles to its north and a San Diegan either flips out or shuts off.
I plan to visit Sydney in 2017 and look forward to it.
Yep, Sydney > San Diego! From what I can tell anyway.

San Diego pop.: 1,380,000 Metro: 3,400,000 Sydney pop.: 205,000 Metro: nearly 5,000,000, according to their own census.
Sydney is a much more cosmopolitan city with much bigger and more vibrant downtown than San Diego. San Diego doesn't measure up to Sydney.
