I will be traveling from the U.S. to Brisbane at the end of this month. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to see and do? What are the must see or to do things in Brisbane? I would also like some less touristy suggestions as well? I will also be spending some time in Gold Coast so any recommendations for there would be a appreciated. I look forward to your suggestions. I can't wait to visit your country!

- Buy an of peak day day ticket hop on a superkat (fast ferry), go all the way up and back down the river.
- Visit Australia zoo (the one steve irwin owned) or loan pine koala sanctuary.
- Go Ab sailing on the Kangaroo point cliffs
- Have lunch in the Botanic Gardens
- Have a BBQ in south bank
- Watch a comedy gig or concert at the powerhouse.
- Climb Mt cootha for a good view of the city.
- Visit Fortitude valley for its markets - chian town and all night clubbing.
- Go wreck diving or dolphin watching on Moreton isalnd.
- Go to the sunshine coast, visit the beach underwaterworld and the marina for some lovely fresh seafood.

That should get you started. Also consult a good travel guide, any further questions i will be happy to help

Brisbane's not really a particularly interesting city. I think it'll get better within two decades time as it's expanding rapidly. If you have access to a car, then a two to three hour drive north and south takes you to more interesting things.

If you're stuck in Brisbane, then I recommend you check out this website: What's On | ourbrisbane.com (http://www.ourbrisbane.com/whats-on - broken link)

Nothing much of interest on the Gold Coast just highrise apartment blocks, tacky if anything.

Sorry mate i was refering to spindles comment that you need to travel 2-3 hours out of brisbane to find things of interest. Which would be byron bay, noosa/emundi, rainbow beach or somewhere rural with vinyards like warwick, stanthorpe or the bunya moutains.

Sorry, I meant places within a radius of 2-3 hours drive. From your list for example, Moreton Bay, Australia Zoo, the Sunshine Coast - all areas that are not in Brisbane itself. I would have no idea how to get to these places if you didn't have a car.

Speaking of Moreton Bay, OP, if you head out there I don't know if it would be worth checking out St Helena Island National Park.
St Helena Island

You are entitled to your opinion as well as anyone else, however the Gold Coast to me is easily one of the most exciting and vibrant places in Oz.
I've been there many times when I used to live in the far north of NSW.
Where do you start, Theme Parks, beaches, surf clubs, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Mount Tamborine -in the hinterland, the list is endless.
This is worth more than one day trip down there from Brissy, I'd spend a few days there and soak it up.
