Been watching some Youtube videos of old NASCAR races and came across this one - the finish of the 1990 Daytona 500. I partly grew up near Seattle, so I have always been interested in the accomplishment of Spanaway, WA's own - Derrick Cope - winning the Great American Race.

But Dale Earnhardt rightly should have, and would have won the race if something hadn't gone terribly wrong on the last lap.

See 4:24 - 4:27 for a shot of his daughter Taylor Nicole crying - either she knew that he had lost this race - or knew that he would eventually die much too young (yeah, I know that it is because she was a very young girl, but it is nice to project sometimes).

Last line in this video - "(Derrick Cope) doesn't know where victory lane is".

R.I.P. Dale Sr.

I believe you are referring to the "$800,000 tire"

Didn't they show Teresa crying right before they showed Taylor Nicole? I seem to remember that - they were in the rv.

Dale lost so many of them, but when he finally had his day it was one of the most special moments in NASCAR.

Hmnn - I just watched it again and it didn't seem like Teresa was crying. Put out - definitely, but not crying.

Okie-dokie. Must have been another one of his sad Daytona losses.
