The best seats in any car I've owned were the ones in my 2004 GTO. Absolutely fantastic in both the front and rear. Did a couple 1k mile road trips and never had an ache or a complaint from the passengers.
A close second would have to be the seats in my M3. They just seemed to be the perfect driving seats. After that would be the ones in my Audi A6, plenty of comfort for long distance drives and still has enough support if you wanted to push it. The only other ones I would comment on were the ones in my wifes Avalanche. They were really good for truck seats, just big and comfy.
The worst has to be just about any regular Japanese car I've ever been in with the exception of Nissan's. IMO neither Toyota or Honda makes a very good seat in their regular cars and Honda has to be about the worse. I've always blamed it on the fact that I'm 6'4" and they just don't design a car for me like the German's and American's do, but I'm not the only person I've heard complain about them.
VOLVO makes the best seats for long hauls. This has been well known for decades, and truckers love them for that very reason. I don't know how they do it.
Great post! My car buying decision now is based on comfort as much as looks and performance.
Best seats
BMW M3- made by Rolls Royce, they fit me perfect, adjustable and super comfy!
Aston Martin- amazing comfort!
Bentley GT
Maserati
Lexus LS
WORST
Lamborghini- very hard, non-adjustable
Porsche 911- no adjustable headrest, hard as rock!
Ferrari except for 458 Italia
BEST
Mercedes CL63 AMG- super comfy plus they massage, heat and cool you plus hold you in place
around corners, how cool is that? I feel like I could drive 10000 miles and never tire in these.
I was really surprised that super exotic cars have such hard, crappy uncomfortable seats! Yes, I do want high performance fun factor but why is it that Ferrari and Lamborghini and Porsche cannot get this basic thing right in car?
If we're talking about comfortable for driving long periods of time... my '83 Ford LTD Brougham had the most comfortable seat. The worst, Pontiac Vibe which is basically a Corolla. It's ok for about 1 hour, then get uncomfortable fast. The Japanese economy-midsize cars tend to have the most uncomfortable seats to me. Some people think they're the best though.
Volvo XC90 Sport. These seats are all day comfortable. I would put a set in my living room if I could.
Infiniti G35. I swear these seats are not made for Americans. They are way too narrow (and I weigh 175) and the bottom cushion is way too short. To add to that, the seatbelts are too tight.
I look forward to ventilated seats in my next car.
I like the seats in my 91 Nissan 300ZX. Fit me well. As for worst, the Honda Element was terrible. I sat in the back seat of one of those for a 40 minute ride and it felt like 4 hours....
The best I've "experienced" would have to be the seats in the Park Avenues I've had, particularly the leather seats. You can drive forever in them without feeling any discomfort.
In between my 1996 (bucket) and 2001 (leather) Park Avenue, I owned a 2000 Chevy Malibu. The seats were bucket and manually adjusted for a change. I initially felt a bit of discomfort in them but became accustomed to them rather quickly.
On the other hand, I never really liked the seats in the (now repossessed) Ford Excursion. They were very firm and uncomfortable in any position. The passenger (and I believe driver) seats in the '87 Mallard camper we used to have (now stolen) were supremely uncomfortable...they didn't even recline, and their "default" position was cramping. The back seat of the Pontiac G3 (newer model) I rode in when I was with my friend and her parents in Mexico was certainly not cut out for the road trip we took.
