I was driving through Georgia today and saw one lone trucker, parked in a deserted weigh station ( ..likely sleeping.. ) and I wondered, truckers, do you pack a weapon ? ( that can be a gun, baseball bat or other protection )

Regular drivers can chime in too here, if they carry a weapon of some sort in their car...

Do truckers really need to pack a weapon?

Isn't everyone else afraid of them because they're... truckers?

Default Do you pack a weapon on the Road? In Georgia...you should!

All truckers, cab drivers, and anyone passing thru should carry a weapon of some sort. Georgia is a cesspool for lack of a more appropriate term. I don't know about the rest of the country but armed robbery is up in GA!

I'm the worst kind of trucker, I'm an Oilfield Trucker!!

You think a trucker is bad, oilfield truckers make over the road truckers look like quire boys

Seriously though, I'm an oilfield trucker but I don't carry a firearm. A lot of the rig sites don't care for firearms to start with and I spend very little time at truck stops or rest areas. We spend all our time off road far away from towns. You have to be pretty damn stupid to go messing around with an oilfield crew in the middle of nowhere

Jtur88, THERE you are! We were looking for you a few days ago! Several folks were listing whom they hadn't seen and your name came up...

I have never known a trucker who didn't carry. Even my brother, who only has rifiles for big game in ID, bought a handgun when he started trucking.

Speaking of trucking in GA - when I lived there, there was a huge news story about a trucker (unarmed) who picked up a hitchhiker. Unbeknownst to him, the hitchhiker was a fleeing felon who DID have a gun. Unfortunately the felon was spotted, and the GA Highway Patrol gave chase. The felon was seen (according to police accounts) to be holding the gun on the trucker as he drove. The truck ended up in a fiery pile on I-95, shot full of bullet holes before it wrecked. Neither the trucker nor the felon survived.

I didn't say they were. Did I? If I did, please quote me.

But there are plenty people who ARE gun nuts, and they will be posting here very soon. That's what they do, they cruise the net looking for sites they can troll, and then insult everyone who doesn't see it their way.

smack rolleyes yourself. Use of those emoticons itself is a form of insulting response.
