Maybe I am just old but there is no way in hell I would purchase a car with no spare tire in it. I actually prefer the full size duplicate tire but will settle for the little donut if I need too but now the car makers are even scrapping that tire.
When you are driving in the middle of nowhere at 2AM and have a flat, the thought scares me. I once had a flat in the middle of Kentucky on a Sunday and no place but WalMart was open to put a new tire on for me.

More automakers ditch spare tires

I always keep a spare...often replacing that duonut spare with an actual tire and wheel.

That's what AAA is for. everyone these days has a cell phone. I have always had a spare but have never used one, on two of my cars it's still brand new after 9 and 4 years. Still, I'd feel funny without it.

I haven't had a spare in 12+ years. Didn't have a flat in that time, although I had two tires losing air. I keep a plug kit in all vehicles.

I had no idea that cars would not always come with a spare...regardless of if it is a donut or a full size spare. Sure, we have cellphones but we can't always rely on them and road assistance isn't always speedy. I would rather replace the tire on my car in 15 minutes than wait for upwards of an hour for someone else to come and have to bring a tire. Plus, what happens when it is the middle of the night or a holiday? You are pretty much SOL if you don't have a spare when you need it.

I wouldn't put all my eggs in the AAA basket. No spare, you have to get towed, unless you have premium membership, it'll cost you past 5 miles.

I wouldn't feel comfortable without a spare at all.

I would feel very uncomfortable driving a car without a spare unless it was a run flat tire, since cell phone service is still spotty in some areas, plus it's alot quicker to change a tire yourself than waiting for AA to come.

Surprised no one has mentioned "fix-a-flat" yet.

I'd rather have a spare but have owned vehicles w/o a spare.

Many times the only time you need a spare is when you don't have one.
Fix-a-flat only works on relatively small nail holes.
Depending on road service in the middle of no-where at night or on the weekend is foolish.
I believe every licensed driver should at least know HOW to change a tire.
The small donut spares are just as good as full size spares, with both you need to make sure you check the pressure in it regularly.
I know people that have never needed a spare and it was still in its origianl possition when the car was sold after many years of use.
After a bad experience I will not leave my neighborhood without a spare and a way to change it.
