I had the new Lexus IS300 (got it 2 years into college at 19). It's a great car. I got rid of it last year. I personally prefer Toyotas to Hondas. But that's just my personal opinion.
Keep in mind that the IS models no longer have IS engines. I feel a little broken-hearted about that.
If she's a safe driver and you feel comfortable with her responsibility, there's no reason not to make her happy. Maybe have her pay the insurance -- as an IS is surely more expensive to insure than a Civic.
There’s a time and place for everything. Maybe I’m alone here, but I’d get the Honda. There’s really no point in showing up to college with an exceptionally nice car.
My daughter wants to go to college and she wants either a Lexus IS or a Acura TL. She is begging me.
Of course she does. What kid wouldn't? I'd get her something reliable and inexpensive. She can go to work and buy herself a luxury brand when she realizes that she has to work for it.
if you are going to buy the car for your daughter, then buy the one you can afford. tell her if she doesnt like it, she can go out and buy her own car with her own money. by the way i would title the car in your name not your daughters so that she cant just sell it if she wants and buy something else.
I agree with those who say to buy something inexpensive but reliable. Think about what you did in college, or if you didn't go to college ask some people who did. College, at least the first year, is not a place for finery. Consider security where she will be living. To me a really nice car at college is just something to get damaged.
