When I was a teenager--which was many years ago--I saw a Bugatti from the late '20s-early '30s, as we were exiting the Lincoln Tunnel on the NJ side.
My father was not a particularly fast driver, so it is not that surprising that the Bugatti passed us as we exited the tunnel, but this old Bugatti really took off at a high rate of speed up the roadway helix, and was gone within a few seconds. All I recalled was the very weathered dark blue paint, and the Bugatti emblem on the rear, but I was extremely impressed at having had the opportunity to actually see one of this extremely rare marque on the road.
Well, fast forward a few months, and as I walked down the main drag in the town of Cranbury, NJ, what should I spy sitting in a driveway but what appeared to be the same Bugatti! While I can't guarantee that it was the same car, it had the same weathered dark blue paint, and it was a Bugatti from the same era. And--just now many Bugattis from that era were even in NJ in the 1960s? I am convinced that it was the same car.
I am not a Bugatti expert by any means, but--based on my recollections of its appearance--I would say that it was a Type 46 or possibly a Type 50. Nowadays, even if it was not restored, that car would be worth a fortune-- literally.
TSX wagons are increasing but there is a dealer here.
I've seen a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera here. Since the DC area has diplomats, I tend to see some Europe-only cars like the Ford S-Max. I've also seen odd-looking fiats, skodas and also the Veyron.
I saw a early fiftys packard last week riding around the neighborhood. I guess someone down the street has it and keeps inside cause Ive never seen it before. I see a 64 ford fairlane v8 coupe several times a day..its in my garage
Just saw a Murcielago scooting down the expressway yesterday -- a rare enough sight in its own right, but to see one in January in Chicago is almost surreal. It's been pretty mild here though. Gallardos and Ferraris and Bentleys and the like... spend enough time near the Gold Coast when the weather's nice and you're bound to see a few.
A couple cars that aren't so much "rare" as "rare in North America" that I've seen scooting around are a couple of Nissan GT-Rs, one an R34 and the other (I think) an R32. Saw a new one recently too. Some time ago I saw a Maserati 3200 GT, as opposed to a 4200.
Not something that would be popular, but i keep running into mid 90's (96ish style) Toyota Camry Coupes...predated the Solara, and looked exactly like a Camry but with two doors.
Just before Christmas I saw a modern Lambo in a very busy shopping center parking lot. I say Lambo because I'm not sure which one it was, but it may have been an Aventador. I heard that snarling engine, and saw a couple glimpses of something low and black between the cars and shoppers. Finally I saw it leaving the center so I took off after it. I could hear it from ten cars behind when it pulled away from a couple traffic lights. Unfortunately traffic kept me from getting near it. It was sexy.
