I just noticed this morning a loud metal screeching sound when I brake the car during reverse. I believe that the brake pads are worn out. My car is Honda Accord 2008 with 47K miles.
How much am I looking at to fix the problem? I live in Houston, TX. I think I will get good brakes which are usually in the range of $50-$70.
If you don't know how to look at the brake pads (usually it's the inner pad that wears out first) and see how worn they are, find a good independent shop that specializes in Honda or at least Japanese or imported cars, post up in your local forum (Houston) to find a good shop.
If the screech is only when backing up, it may or may not be worn out pads.
Avoid the chain shops, they typically use cheap parts. You want either OEM Honda pads, or maybe Wagner Thermo-Quiet pads.
Your brake discs may or may not need resurfacing, they probably don't need to be replaced.
Many cars will go through the front brake pads faster than the rears.
I just got all 4 brake pads and rotors replaced on my 98 Lexus LS400 for $600, if that helps at all. I can't recall the brand they used, but I know they were higher-end.
