I think you have instal underseat storage or behind the back seat storage case. Some case or unit have a seat lock available for additional secure storage.
So can keep your valuable and important documents or stuff in that unit.

Sell the truck and get a used Dodge Grand Caravan minivan with Stow N Go seats, - like a 2005 SXT.

I'd get a toolbox. (Chest box that sits down in the bed). Not sure what size bed you have. You can bolt the box to the bed of the truck from inside the box and lock it. UWS is the best toolbox in my opinion.

If you don't have large items that stick up past the edge of the bed a soft tonneau cover and an alarm on the truck that picks up vibration might be enough. The soft cover keeps things out of sight and if someone tries to open it up, the alarm might scare them away, or alert you that someone is trying to break in.

Get a first floor room and park the truck in front of it. Most pickup truck beds have loops to tie things down, run a cable lock if possible through items if you can. Even through the handles on a soft suitcase, Smaller things that are expensive put in boxes on the floor or behind the seat in the cab. Someone determined to get your things will, you just don't want to tempt them by keeping things out of sight. If they have a inkling to rip you off, slow them down

OP has probably had all of his stuff stolen by now.

I don't think there is a cheap way. I used to put my German Shepherd in the back of the truck and he would give the stink eye to anyone that had too much interest in the contents of the truck.

Later I had a canopy on the truck, about $350 at that time, but very useful for things like grocery shopping.

A person could buy a little cargo trailer, but for such a small amount of use, it would be a lot cheaper to rent a little one way trailer from U-Haul. After all, there is a pickup to pull it with.

There isn't much options to be honest , and a Tonneau Cover looks like the best option. You can get a very good one for just $200 bucks. [mod cut]

A few posters have suggested a dog.... that's the best bet.

If you don't want to feed a dog, get a couple of those cheap battery powered motion detectors with alarms, or attached to your horn. Mount them under the lip of the bed. At least you will know when the truck bed has been breached. It may scare them away, or give you time to get there and scare them personally.
