Out of what you listed I'd go with the Mazda or the Subaru. If you're in the northeast I'd pick the subbie for the awd plus the big aftermarket support. Definitely no slight towards the Mazda as I've owned three new ones since 2004 and currently own a mazdaspeed3 which might be an option for you. Plenty of zoom zoom, four doors and respectable gas mileage, plus easily in your price range.
Mitsubishi is on it's way out of the North American Automotive market so I would avoid them due to lack of dealership networks and a Factory warranty that is pretty much void if the do leave sooner rather than later.
A couple year old Ralliart would fit your budget or a new Lancer GT. I own two 2010 Lancer Sportback GTS and love them. Mitsubishi dealers are usually a lot more willing to discount than others (got mine for about $3,000 to $4,000 less than a Civic, Cruze, Focus, Impreza or Mazda3). They have a 5/60K bumper to bumper and 10/100K powertrain warranty, but I haven't used it because nothing has gone wrong with either one.

Op you could get a older "bug eye" 4-door Subaru WRX STI for a decent priced used these days
Parts are easy to find it is a "Fast and Furious" type of car and their is a lot of aftermarket support and tuning opportunities for it so it would make a nice fun first car IMO and if you have cash to ad mods and tune it later on it is very capable for that type of stuff and your only limit is how much $$$ you want to put into it.
