How much do you think vehicles will cost in the year 2020? Will we even be able to afford new cars? My freinds and I were disscussing this today at dinner and I thought it would be a great post.

hopefully it won't be much different than the difference from 1987 to 2007... the cost of cars won't be the only thing that raises over the next 20 years

Actually I have noticed that the brand new car I paid for in 1998 cost much MORE than it does now in 2007. I was like WTH? So all I can say is, prices fluctuate according to demand and supply, 20 years from now... who knows...

Default Cars being sold twenty years from now will not even compare to the ones we have now

Technology is changing by leaps and bounds every year alone. In 20 years, the automobile industry will be revolutionized.

Imagine a vehicle that runs off of magnetics. It doesn't have any parts that create friction. Which means, it won't wear out.

Paying an annual fee to drive a state owned vehicle may be something new? Imagine paying $1000 year to have a rental car from the state. You pay for the gas and thats it.

I don't believe that all vehicles will be running off magnets in 20 yrs. In the 80s they said that said that we'd all be flying hovercrafts like the Jetsons by the year 2000 yet here we are, still stuck on the roads.

As long as the wages stay the same or won't stray too far from what they are now, they will still be in correspondence with them. However more luxury race cars will be made and rich people will have more to choose from.

what car is it? it doesnt hold true for all cars. for instance i checked the cost of a 240Z adjusted for inflation once upon a time and found that the 350Z was actually cheaper.

In 2020 I think the the cost of a Compact car will cost about $20,000 base and mid size car will cost around 27k-35k and a SUV will cost 45K-60K base i think by 2020 that the gasoline will still exist but we will have other options to fuel our cars like hydrogen and electric .

I always like the science digest in 50 that said we would have moving sidewalks and helicopters to replace other transportation.Even a few years ago they said by 2005 we would have conrolled hwy were the drive basicallt didn't have to steer and the space would be maintained by sensors in the roadway. My huess is that by 2020 man will still be driving cars run on gasoline mostly.

I'd agree for the most part with what you said, but considering the huge push for hybrids and driving a hybrid is now the new thing. I think that honestly we will see more and more cars parking them selves which some already do. More cars maybe having the option to drive down the car pool lane being driven by GPS. Et cetera.

Maybe not huge changes but you will see some differences in alternative energy use.
