What are the best and worst car seats you've ever sat in?
Best:
Audi Q7 - Fantastic comfort and great support; also offered a practically infinite range of adjustments. Also has lightning-fast heaters that get hot and stay hot which is a refreshing change from seat heaters that get lukewarm and then shut off.
Porsche 911 - Firm but comfortable. Also hugged in the corners and had a wide range of adjustment. Not to mention the leather was FANTASTIC.
Hyundai Santa Fe - My car; some complain about the short bottom cushion but as I've got short legs, it doesn't bother me. These seats are all-day comfortable (did 14 hours in them and wasn't the least bit sore at the end) and are wearing like iron. I also like the fact that the 8-way adjustment isn't reserved for the top-level model.
Worst:
Ford F-150 - Not sure what was about these seats but after 30 minutes or so of initial comfort, they twisted my back into fits that took me days to get over. This might be the only thing keeping me from buying a Ford in the future.
Honda Accord - Absolutely hands down the WORST car seats ever and from what I've read here (and elsewhere), I'm not alone in feeling this way. The lumbar support feels like it's padded with an anvil that jabs into your back and of course, it can't be adjusted. After 5 minutes in an Accord I'm ready to slit my wrists. How Honda sells 30,000 of these every MONTH without getting slapped with thousands of chiropractic bills is beyond me.
For whatever reason, most German car seats strike me as at least good (even an old air-cooled Bug has decent seats).
I remember one Dodge company car I had back in the early 80s, big sedan with a bench seat - was awful, made my back hurt if I drove long distances (I was in my early 20's at the time, very lean and in shape, at 5'10" not a real big guy either - why that seat fit me so poorly I still don't know)
The driver's seat in my old 87 Camry has a lot of manual adjustments that let me find a comfortable position.
I alwasy found american car seats to be good when first bought but to go to terrible i about 4 years as the cushioning gets bad. I always like a like firm seats myself but veryone is fidderent it loks like.
Comfort:
- Lexus LS430
- Any older Cadillac with those pillowtop seats
- VW Phaeton
- Audi A8
Sports:
- Honda S2000
- VW R32
WORST:
- The Hyundai Scoupe (remember those?)
Long before the Genesis or talk of a RWD 5.0 V8... from the dark ages of Hyundai comes a horrifically-built POS with seats that were a static metal frame with plywood, a two-micron thin layer of foam, and some scratchy cloth stretched over it.
Nothing this side of a military-issue vehicle could possibly come close to how epic uncomfortable these things were.
Actually, you're right: I completely blanked on it, but my parents had an '88 Saab 900S with cloth seats and it was amazingly comfy. Then I got an '86 900 SPG for my first car, and it was even more comfortable!
I drove it from Boston to LA and had no back pain. By comparison, when I drove my much newer, much-more reliable 2000 Jetta from LA to central Oregon, my back hurt so much I almost cried when I laid down that night!

4 years? The cushions on my '66 Plymouth and '69 and '76 Cadillac are still good. And they are original.
Comfort:

That was the first one I thought of.
So here are my picks, with photos...
1. '75-'76 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham d'Elegance
2. Cadillac Fleetwood series 75 Limousine or nine-passenger sedan (back seat)
3. Plymouth Fury VIP
Worst:
1. Chevrolet Vega
2. Ford Pinto
