Grand Cherokee.

New ones are nice.

Other than that...trying to think of what's nice and in that price range.
Even the small Lexus and Caddy are way more than that (IRL - don't care what websites say, I have never seen one priced less than mid $40k)...hmm...

Thanks for all the options! I'm betting for a compact SUV/Crossover. I find Jeep Cherokee's too rugged and big. It might not fit to our garage. My husband has explorer already.

I love my Volvo xc60. Seats 5, good mileage, plenty of storage & just enough luxury.

the Escalade is really is just a Yukon Denali tricked out with a facelift 22" chrome rims and some TV's in the headrest.

If you do any off-roading . Tow-hauling or need any real SUV capability would look at a 2-3 year old COPO Yukon, Suburban or see what Deals/Rebates you can get on last years model blowout on a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durango.

First off, hardly anyone *needs* an SUV.

For almost every application a car, station wagon, or minivan is more practical.

If you must I would recommend a Subaru, either the Forester or Outback.

Over 90% of the SUVs sold in the US never get near a dirt road to begin with, but women love them, and since they make the overwhelming majority of car-buying decisions in this country, small wonder that it's an extremely competitve market.

My top three choices would be Mazda, Honda & Toyota in that order; Mazda's car lineup is downright ridiculous.

Nissan has an SUV, give it a try. I'm really impressed with Nissan's handling and stereo sounds. And, they are rare on the road these days (SUV's i mean)

You can say the same thing about sports cars and tracks. What % really needs a tablet or a smartphone either right? Let's not go into need.

As for a recommendation, the X3 is almost the same storage space as an E70 X5 and the 28i is in your range. The X1 is just a giant shoe. Q5 is also a nice choice.
