This is exactly the problem I have with Ford. Granted I get their position, but it is blatantly obvious they dont get mine.
My car has a transmission problem exactly discussed in TSB. Problem is, all 4 times I took it to the dealer, they didnt experience it so they refused to fix it. Here we are over a year later and I get stuck "living with it".
At some point you have to start to listen to the consumer. If they have brought the car in FOUR times AND called the manufacturer there may actually BE a fire where they said there is smoke.
Instead, rather than put $1K-$2K (potentially) into my car, they prefer I tell everyone about how crappy their service is. I know for sure my stories have talked 3 people out of buying from Ford. Their loss I suppose...
Customer: My car is on fire.
Tech: I'm not showing any codes. Must be OK.
Customer: MY CAR IS ON FIRE!!
Tech: Take it home and see if the problem goes away.
The dealership gets compensated about 50% for warranty work, so they will do everything they can to avoid it.
Well they're going to have to take a bite out of the **** sandwich now and lick the plate clean. I hope they like moving it around in an icy back lot with zero gears.
To top it off when I told the Jiffy Luber tech at the first service visit the fluid looked burnt, he said that was normal for a vehicle with 36k. What a joke.
I got in a one way rental and drove the 190 miles back home.
I take offense at the Jiffy Lube comment. OK, not really, but I did work at a Jiffy Lube when I was younger and I took pride in doing my job correctly. It does **** me off when you get the "oh, the computer doesn't say anything..." line. Well, is your computer plugged in? Or did you plug the harness into a ham sandwich?
And for goodness sake, don't let Jiffy Lube "techs" talk you into those high-dollar services. If you must, just get the oil change there and leave everything else to people who aren't there because they got out of school an hour early and get credit for a high school class. Ask me how I know that. And make sure your drain plug is actually in before you leave the lot.
You can drive your new car off the dealership lot with only 9 miles on the odo, drive to a jiffy lube and they can find $500 worth of 'necessary' repairs with no problem.
my dealer is as competitive as Spiffy Lube. Why bother? Save two bucks? Too many double gasketed oil changes my engine blew up stories.
I am lucky, though, my dealer is actually guys I worked with in the industry through the years and my shop foreman lead tech knows me personally because we worked together, not a scenario most consumers enjoy. Add to that I was a professional parts manager for twenty years and DH is a certified master tech gives us unfair advantage.
That being said, it really is who you know.
