We just bought a used car yesterday. Its a 2003 Toyota Corolla automatic transmission. We test drove the car and there were no problems. There were no problems driving it home as well. We started driving it today and when you accelerate, there is lots of vibration felt in the floor of the car. It goes away after about 15 miles per hour. If I accelerate hard at any other speed, it goes to vibrating again. When i come to a stop, the vibration can be felt again once the car comes to a complete stop. The vibration once i come to a complete stop, lasts about 5 seconds and stops. The vibration is not felt in the brake pedal at all. Its in the floor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I will be bringing it back to have it checked out. Thanks
Besides having someone knowledgable take a look, if you can open hood and watch the engine/tranny as someone else cycles back n forth fron N/P to a gear/D with car running and look out for excessive "jumping" or movement from the assembly.
If its strictly on acceleration it really seems more like a vibration issue from improper clearancing of an exhaust or something similar. Its all worth a look though.
Thanks for the replies. The vibration will start and be felt in the floor when accelerating from a complete stop, no matter how much or how little gas i give . While coasting along and giving a little gas to keep at a constant speed, i cant feel vibrations. When i came to a stop a light before, it starting vibrating in the floor for a few seconds and then stopped. I just started the car and revved the engine while in park, the motor didnt seem to move too much but i dont know what exactly would be too much movement. After idling in park for a couple of minutes, i could feel the vibrations inside the car, although not as bad as when i actually am moving the car from a standstill. The vibration was in the floor a little bit while alot of it could be heard in the dash.
If you dont have a friendly local mechanic already, find one. Would be awfully easy to get it on a lift and check the issues already brought up. A total of about 10 minutes, so TRY to find a good servicing shop that will take that quick look without automatically charging you 50-$100 for "diagnostics".
Just took it for a drive again. Vibrates on initial acceleration, then its fine. When driving at speeds above 40 mph or so and then coming to a complete stop, it starts vibrating a lot once car is completely stopped. I threw it into neutral when it was vibrating at the stop and it did not vibrate in neutral.
