I have an oddball neighbor who is out there every day giving his 2010 Camry the full wash treatment buckets of soapy water, vacuum interior all glass cleaned inside and out. he also doesnt believe in applying wax to the car for some odd reason., is there a possibility he could over time wash the clearcoat off the car?

Nope. Not possible. He is adding protectant to the clear coat. He isn't using anything abrasive so it won't take it off.

Your lucky, at least that's quiet. One of my neighbors cuts his grass every 2 days if possible. Takes him about an hour and a half, with the mower, edger and blower going. I'm getting ready to have a chat with him.

Eh... although excessive and something I would not recommend, as long as it is done probably, it is not going to "rub the paint off the car." However, I will say that every time you are rubbing the paint, you are initiating friction and it will take something off. For our intent and purposes, it is hardly anything substantial that one will need to worry about. In addition, the more you touch your paint, you are increasing the risk for mistakes to be made which will lead to swirls and scratches.

Wax on the other hand, will wear off faster with excessive washing. Without wax, the paint is going to be more prone to oxidation and will dull the paint.

If your neighbor really needs a clean car every single day, I would just make sure there is good coat of wax and just rinse with a pressure washer. Then use a electric leaf blow to dry.

What "protectant" is he adding? If he is using car wash soap, he isn't adding anything to the paint.

Frequent car washing is probably good overall just to keep dirt from accumulating on a car. But daily? He is using a good bit of water and of course time for probably zero benefit. This is an obsession.

He's obviously a contract killer making sure trace evidence doesn't stay on his car.

Yep reading got me on that one. I thought the OP said he waxed it every day. That's my bad.

Washing with no waxing will eventually wear off the wax which will allow the paint to oxidize much faster. So yes, without keeping it waxed it could do some damage in the long run.

I used to wash my show truck every single morning, but I waxed it one to two times per month. I think that's key.

I guess I don't have to worry about wearing out my paint.

if I were him, I would tell you to go pound sand. It's his property. As long as he isnt doing it very early in the morning, or very late in the evening, you really are just being "that" neighbor that everyone hates. If he cut it every 1-2 weeks, you would probably complain about him not keeping his yard up.
