I have fog lights but I almost never use them. It doesn't really make a difference in my car.
Proper fog lights will not make a different unless it is foggy (or misty or such).
People make up all kinds of reasons to use them because they like the looks, but they won't help in clear weather. They may provide more light directly in front of the vehicle and maybe on the sides, but you would have to be driving very slowly for that light to be much use beyond what the low beams are already providing in good weather.
To me, driving with the fog lights on when not needed is a waste. Also, if the fog lights aren't aimed properly, having them on with headlights has the same effect on oncoming drivers as if you had your high beams on. Get your fog lights aim tested and adjusted properly. Only turn on fog lights when in fog or heavy rain.
It is interesting that nobody has actually said if the so called fog lights do anything in fog. Besides, just how often do you end up in fog anyway?
I live in south Louisiana and it fogs quite often, sometimes so thick 25 to 35 MPH is barely safe. One of my previous cars had fog lights. In thick fog, they helped me to see the road. This didn't mean I could drive faster. It increased the visibility of the road, not the cars ahead.
I run them with the auto headlights on my SuperCrew. It's definitely no worse than all the folks I see driving on clear, well-lit roads with their high beams on.
Your SuperCrew isn't visible enough without foglights? That's kinda funny.
I only use my fog lights when there is fog. Also it is not "free" to use electrical things in a car. You pay for their use via lower gas mileage. So turn things off when not needed - same at turning off things at home when not needed.
How refreshing it is to hear someone that "gets it". It drives me nuts when I see people driving during the daytime with their daytime running lights or headlights on. This isn't Canada.
If everyone disconnected their DRL's, or shut off their fog lights or headlights when not in use, imagine the oil that would be saved in this country.
