ANY white light on the rear of the car to light up the area would be thought of as a reverse light by you guys. So what SHOULD they have done to light up the area in the dark as a safety and security measure?
It is not true that any white light would have been thought to be reverse lights. These were the actual reverse lights, though. You don't think engineers can't put their mind to it and think of a better solution that this one?

Those people should leave the engine running so we'll at least hear them as we approach.

I highly doubt someone is going to leave their bike engine running while they are inside shopping. Plus, besides having your radio on, who's going to hear a crotch rocket's engine?

What if it was a body...any difference? You don't just whip into parking spots for the reason you just mentioned.

That's true -- most sport bikers are considerate enough to not remove the baffles from their exhaust in order to be heard from 10 blocks away.
