2005 Ford Expedition - day to day driving is around 13.5 MPG, slightly higher if I use ethanol free gas or if we dont need to use AC. Highest was 18mpg on a trip to the beach (flat) when we didn't need AC. [Calculated using trip computer distance divided by number of gallons at fill-up]
2013 Ford CMAX Energi - currently ~175mpg, was over 200mpg during the summer, then fall sports seasons started and I had to drive farther than the battery's range so used more gas.
In the last few months it has dropped to from anywhere to 26 to 29 MPG
I am glad you posted this thread, movingtrustates.
Does anyone know why it would drop to much??
It has a new air filter in it.
That's about right for a winter blend of fuel. Winter fuel is blended with lighter, less energy dense components so it burns easier when it's cold. You do lose some energy content and thus, MPG's.
DW's '03 Lexus RX was 18mpg local and 23/24 highway. Son's '13 Caravan 26/28 highway. After new tires on both vehicles mileage dropped to 15/16 and 21 highway for the RX and 24 for the Caravan. Because of wear of the old I wonder if the dia of the new tires change the computer calc?
Son also has a '01 Jetta TDI and routinely gets better than EPA mileage.
Much depends on how you drive the car. I can normally beat EPA estimates, because I follow recommendations for saving gas. If you want to read about some folks that really get crazy about getting better MPG, research hypermiling. Check out the CleanMPG web site.
18.6mpg hand calculated. Every car I have ever used has been incredibly inaccurate when going by the computer alone, so I hand calculate every tank. It is also a good way to track potential issues if there is an unexplained drop in mileage.
My average for the 24782 miles I have driven my Jetta TDI diesel wagon since new is 38.2. I use the fuelly app to track my fuel mileage, Fuelly - Track and Compare your MPG.
38.2 is an average of all miles driven most of them are to work and home @28 miles each way city/highway combined, no hyper-mileing, coasting, flat land, no traffic, perfect conditions, BS . Can't get any more real world than that.
My Prius is rated right at 50 mpg combined. I bought it in November just as winter hit, and I've been getting just below 40 mpg. Last week we had record high temps and I got 50 mpg on a tank for the first time. In addition to the warm weather, I had very little interstate driving (which is 80 mph here). At 80 mph I'm lucky to get 40 mpg. My dashboard calculator always states 1-2 mpg better than it really gets.
