She and my wife's niece are the same age (16) and both don't really want to drive. Sister and her husband managed to get a good deal on a 2013 Ford Focus SE. She reluctantly drives but really doesn't want to. Even my sister couldn't wait to get a car and drive.

Our Oldest Son hated to drive and still doesn't like it but will drive from time to time.
When he was a teenager he refused to get his drivers license and every girlfriend he had picked him up for their dates.
He did give them gas money and paid for the date but it was just the way he was and very much still is.

This is so foreign to me. Hard for me to wrap my mind around. From age six on, I couldn't *wait* to get behind the wheel of a car. Then again, I'm a real car NUT. Took auto tech for four years at a vocational school and loved every minute of it.

I had a niece that just had zero interest in driving. Waited until she was 19 to get her driver's license.

As I said, I just don't understand.

Do they not understand how utterly **WONDERFUL** cars can be? Not just from an engineering standpoint, or a mechanical standpoint, or a thrill-of-a-lifetime standpoint, or a joyous, wind-in-your-hair standpoint, but from a "NOW-I-CAN-SOAR-LIKE-A-BIRD" standpoint?

Lol.

Sounds somewhat like my husband. He's gotten a lot more into cars since meeting me, but has never really cared to drive. According to him it's because he was the oldest of 5, and he knew the second he had his license that he'd become a taxi service for this younger siblings until he moved out. Thus I am the one that usually picks out our cars and maintains them.

I will note that ever since I taught him to drive a manual, and I won't buy a car til he drives (and likes) it - he's really gotten a lot more into driving and vehicles in general. Before he met me, his parents simply went out and bought cars for the kids, and they were just stuck with whatever their parents bought. My dad always took me with him, and I knew that I had the final say on what I would be driving. It made it 'my' car, and not just 'a' car.

The first 14 years of my life were spent lusting to get behind the wheel, it's a foreign concept to me. Their parents screwed up big time.

I don't know why but it seems fairly common with a lot of kids, I know a few kids like that. We were actually discussing it the one day at a party, a few parents mentioned some of their kids were not exactly enthusiastic. Like the others I could not wait to get my license.

Let's hope this trend continues so that us geezers can get our congested roads back.

What will they not want to do next; ride bicycles? Walk? Wear clothes? Eat?
