Birmingham, AL 2011 Dodge Charger Retired Police Cruiser Used Sedan Montgomery, AL Pelham, AL DonohooAuto, LLC | 17624 | 2B3CL1CT5BH539925

This car is making my mouth water. That 5.7lV8 seems so appealing, but the car is a retired police car meaning that it's likely seen some USE, and I'm being sarcastic meaning that it's been rode hard....

Low miles, and it does have a sideswipe damage in it's history, but no airbag deployment. I feel confident that Alabama Highway patrol does a good job maintaining it's fleet.

Would you folks buy a retired lower mileage police car?

I would pass, its way to much money, and the Chargers were not very good or reliable at police duty. If you want a Police car, you cant go wrong with a P71, a good one will cost less then half of what they want for that Charger.

It's really interesting that people go crazy over police cars but are terrified of rentals =D

I'd especially pass on a Dodge police car. They've got a bad track record. At least the Crown Vics were reliable and cheap to fix. Not nearly as much performance but that really didn't matter in the real world.

Panthers are easy to work on, and parts a dirt cheap. You cant say that about a 2014 "whatever"

I would buy a retired police car. Not a Charger. I know the director of the Alabama Police Fleet on a professional basis and can assure you they take good care of their vehicles. I also know they sell them at ~60k mile target to avoid costly repairs and maintenance increases that start to accumulate after that point.

If you are interested in a Charger and want to look for a deal, I suggest you get the VIN and ask the agency where it was assigned. Often the sergeant or supervisor is assigned a squad car but it is driven much more kindly than the officers who are responding "code" on a regular basis.

Great tip there, Ryndlbr. Looks like it was taken ownership in Hamilton, Al, which is near US 278 highway. But then it was offered up for auction near Ft. Payne, off of Interstate 59 on the other side of the state, prob 150 miles away.

Don't really think I'd buy a rental fleet car either. I have rented a lot, I mean a lot, of cars in my days, from rental locations nationwide. The people running the rental locations are usually new grads from college who know nothing about cars. And don't even get me started on how the average person drives a rental car. I know I drive them like a rented mule.

Heck I drive my own car like that sometimes, which is why I'm spending so much on maintenance parts these days. Just ordered new control arms and bushings yesterday!

I did a 2010 CVPI a few hours and miles but it don't leak everything works

The CVPI are getting hard to find but some places that have carried parts for them
are now discounting them...Yeah Me !

It's a vehicle that not only gets me where I want inexpensively, I don't worry about
door dings and other parking lot mishaps and best of all nobody notices

The Crown Vics were bullet-proof (OK, not literally) and many of them have gone another 100,000 miles as taxis after the police retired them. While Chrysler has managed to get high ratings for reliability the last few years,
they made a lot of crap cars from the late 90s to 2010 or so. Read the reviews, the 2011 Charger is actually rated high for reliability by many sites.
