I'd pedal a Schwinn everywhere before I ever bought a minivan. My husband flat out refuses to even acknowledge they exist. They're not for everyone.
If you want a station wagon with the rear facing seats, Mercedes E-Class or Volvo XC70, but the third row has weight limits, and are suitable for smaller people. The Tesla has a rear jump seat as well, but it's cramped, and would not be great for adults, in the Model S. The Tesla Model X has a third row, and is a crossover, but you could save a bit of money and buy an MDX, Pilot, Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, etc. and get the same functionality, albeit not with electric power. Then again, with some of the issues Tesla has had of late with respect to service problems, and the looming more mass marketed Teslas coming to the fore, unless there was a solution to the service infrastructure problems, I would not consider one as a primary vehicle.
The minivan is more comfortable on longer trips, but if it is an infrequent need right now, I'd be inclined to recommend renting a minivan when it is necessary and buying a vehicle that is a better match for your daily driving needs. I own several vehicles, and still have to rent specialty vehicles when the need arises a couple of times a year, like a pickup or a minivan, though I own a larger SUV. The minivan is the most comfortable for adult passengers, without too much contortion to get into the rear seats.

Incorrect.
They're not real tow rigs but can generally tow 3,500 to 4,000 pounds. That's certainly less than your Durango but then your Durango is also a joke compared with a 3/4 ton pickup. Not everyone needs to tow 14,000 pound trailers around (few in fact). 3,500 is a bit limited but for quite a few people that would be fine. I don't need to tow that often or throw 4 tons of sand/slate into the bed to lay down a patio. When I do, I just borrow my dad's truck so 3,500 would be plenty for me. Bust I'd really be doing is towing some dirt bikes. Durango is much more capable, typical ski boats for example are around 4,000 to 6,000 pounds so a bit too much for a minivan but doable with the Durango.
Cargo room isn't even close. Minivan has about double what your Durango has. Heck, my dinky little Prius has more cargo room than your Durango does behind the third row. That's enough room, barely, for a semi-extended road trip for four adults. Durango is going to be an absolute joke with it's runty storage space for 6-7. There's enough space for a typical grocery store run or a lighter Costco trip but nothing more. Likewise passenger capacity isn't that close either. The Durango's third row is certainly usable but not to the extent a minivan's is.
But yes, people like you and your husband are why things like the Durango will sell. Certainly some advantages (ground clearance and towing) but most of them never get used to tow and go anywhere the ground clearance would matter. Predominant selling point is that they aren't minivans even if they are less practical, more expensive, and get worse gas mileage.
Mercedes stopped making the E Class wagon in 2016 its only in Europe now
E wagon is still very much available. They may not have produced one in 2016. That was the new model year and sometimes wagons aren't available the first year.

My neighbor has a Durango and my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan can carry more passengers.
A Schwinn is usually a crap bike anyway.
Yes, you can tow with a minivan. My minivan towed my 1999 Honda Civic HX for 1 year!

My minivan has more room than a Sequoia.
The 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT I have can carry 7 people, and tow a cargo trailer for their cargo.
There are people who resist minivans for various reasons, but a minivan is the best vehicle for transporting that number of people and their luggage. If you don't want to buy one, rent one for these periodic trips.
Once you use it a couple of times you'll want to own one.
I've driven enough of them to know I'd never want one. If I did, it'd be the easilly modded rwd Astro.
