I received a van as a gift from a relative in Ky. I was told there is a form in NC that exempts the tax if the gift was from a relative. Does anyone know what this form is ?

You need to start with formal statement from relative that it was a gift.

Why would you ask a random forum and not your local DMV? I would start with them.

Hell I'd ask some random homeless person before I'd ask the DMV. Pretty much every government office is more red tape than they are worth and their sites are convoluted as all hell. Heck just a quick click on that link and a search for "Gift" gives one a ton of links to weed through

And when you show up and the process is completely different, you can't just tell the DMV people that "random forum told me it was form X I needed to fill out."

much depends upon your residence state for the transfer.

the easiest "universal solution" I've found is to get a notarized "Bill of Sale" from your relative showing a minimal sale price due to the intent to gift you the vehicle. Include a receipt for the purchase amount received by the seller from you along with the signed over Title to the vehicle. A purchase amount such as $1 or $10 is a legal transaction. Paying the applicable sales tax/ownership taxes/license fee on such a low dollar gift is a lot easier than going through the hoops in many states for a "gift" vehicle signed over at not cost to the new owner of the car.

I found this:
LMGTFY

I clicked on the first link and scrolled the list on the right to find the info for gifting a car.
