I know the market outside the west coast is small for electric cars. Do you think it would pay for a gas station with a built in restaurant/sitting area to install a charging station away from the gas pumps? I’m thinking gas stations just off the interstate highways could be a test bed for such a program. It could be set up like how some stations have a separate coin operated air pump. They could set it up to use a credit/debit card payment. Pull into the station, plug in the car, swipe the card, go inside for a meal, and come back out to head back on the highway.
Tesla will give and install charging units to a commercial business. I don't know who one contacts to do this but these aren't generally ones that you can charge for use as Tesla's can charge for no charge at Tesla charging stations. The idea for a business is that it would draw people to your business.
Here is a quick video. The Ford C-Max in the video is mine. Telsa paid for and installed these charging stations.
We drove cross country 3 years ago when we moved to WA state. Was surprised how many charging stations we stumbled on at many typical exit service station/fast food places even out in North Dakota/Montana.
It would make more sense to put them at a restaurant than a gas station. If you're not using gas then there's little incentive in pulling into a gas station and spending 30 minutes to a few hours in the convenience store.
The problem with charging stations is that you have to entertain people during the charging process.

Along Many interstate highways are combination gas station/restaurants. Some mega truck stops offer several restaurants, as pumps for cars, and diesel pumps for rigs.
I don't see the benefit of moving to electric cars. Fossil fuels like coal are used to generate electricity. Doesn't seem like that is any better than oil being used for producing gasoline.
I have never even seen a Tesla on the road. The nearest charging station is about 50 miles away in a mall parking lot, but I can't say I ever even noticed it was there until I looked it up one day.
Here in the Province of Ontario, we don't burn any coal to produce electrical power.
Half of our energy is produced by nuclear generation and the other 50 percent is generated by water powered generation ( like at Niagara Falls ). So, yes it can be done, but people have to insist that it be done.
Locations for recharge stations ? Hotels for over night guests. Malls for shoppers. Business buildings.

You could put them there, but as far as being a market a charging station isn’t much of a money maker. Those restaurants and stores are already packed with the other 99% of the market driving gas and diesels. I wouldn’t invest a whole lot just to attract another 1%.
The station operator I know says there is no payoff at most locations. You burn a lot of real estate with relatively long charge times with no real margin and small increase in fast food / convenience sales.
