I can't say it bothers me that much as I am used to driving alone but feel bad for them missing out on all the scenery. That said, if I have someone with me, I wouldn't mind some conversation.
I am the worst passenger - I have my own "brake" on my side, brace myself, etc. - I'd never be able to sleep when someone else was driving.
I can't say I NEVER sleep when someone else is driving, but I tend to NOT fall asleep..... I have to be dog tired.
1) Two sets of eyes are better than one
2) Company for the driver
3) Comfort level for me (as I'm more used to driving myself)
(funny how the brakes on my side when I'm the passenger never work I try not to brake when I'm the passenger, as it really can unnerve the driver.)
Nothing wrong with a sleeping passenger as long as they’re not reclined. Reclining the seat back while the car’s in motion increases the risk of serious injury in an accident even with the seatbelt on. The occupant will slide under the seatbelt either towards the dash breaking legs and other bones or towards the rear window possibly being killed on impact.
I don't know if it's a throw back to his infancy but my grown son falls sleep within minutes of getting in the car, especially if he knows it's going to be a long trip. Part of the fun is sharing the scenery with your passenger.
I usually can't fall asleep when one of my kids are driving or my wife because I know she gets sleepy and doesn't like to relinquish her driving duties so I usually stay a little aware in case.
My oldest daughter is a very good driver and I feel comfortable enough to doze off when she drives.
On long drives I always sleep when Mrs5150 is driving so when it’s my turn I’m good to go. And visa versa. Generally I just sleep for a half hour
