agree SWFL: the "quality" of the styling sucks.

The Maxima is a mess of disjointed lines, angles and bends with an ugly grill. Plus,Nissan had to add that always silly "floating roof" they half assed. Yuk.

Nissan owns JATCO that once had a reliability problem with CVT transmissions. Other than Honda and Toyota, all the major auto manufacturers have built cars with JATCO transmissions. The JF011E used in the Dodge Caliber, Jeep Patriot/Compass, and the Sentra 8 to 10 years ago was a disaster. That doesn't mean a 2018 JATCO CVT has the same problem.

CVT makes an underpowered econobox feel even more underpowered. The Maxima is a 300 hp car.

I’d skip it just because of its crappy CVT tranny. This car with a traditional geared transmission would be 10x better.

Thanks for all the replies. I was pricing out the Maxima and the Avalon comes out better in terms of features Vs price. Plus, I really don't need to worry about quality with Toyota. I have CVT in my Accord. It's not too bad. Yes, I've noticed the drop/jump in RPM's. It's not smooth; it makes my V6 feel like a turbo when I apply a little pressure to the gas and it jumps in RPM.

I was at the Nissan dealership the other day and the Maxima is close to 40 grand. The V6 is a rarity though.
